Volleyball Birthday
On February 9, volleyball celebrates its birthday worldwide. On this day in 1895, American physical education instructor William G. Morgan introduced a new game that combined elements of basketball, tennis, and handball. Originally created as a non-contact team sport, volleyball has evolved into one of the most dynamic and exciting games in the world.
Over more than a century, volleyball has grown from a gym-based activity into a global sport played on the biggest international stages. It became part of the Olympic Games and developed a unique culture centered around teamwork, strategy, trust, and precise coordination between players.
In Russia, volleyball holds a special place in the sporting landscape. A strong national school, outstanding athletes, and major international victories have made it one of the country’s most respected and popular sports. Volleyball brings generations together, helping to build character, discipline, and a drive for excellence.
Our Domina Pulkovo complex regularly welcomes volleyball teams visiting Saint Petersburg for matches, training camps, and tournaments. We are always glad to support athletes by providing comfortable conditions for rest and recovery, and to be part of their sporting journey.
We congratulate everyone involved in volleyball on the birthday of this remarkable game and wish exciting matches, powerful serves, strong team spirit, and new victories!
