Knowledge Day
Knowledge Day is celebrated in Russia every year on September 1 and marks the beginning of the new academic year.
The holiday was officially established in 1984, when the Supreme Soviet of the USSR declared September 1 the single start date for schools across the country. Over time, it has become not only an official event, but also a truly family celebration, symbolizing new beginnings, learning, and the joy of meeting friends and teachers again.
Traditionally, Knowledge Day has always been associated with a festive atmosphere: school assemblies, the ringing of the first bell, flowers for teachers, and the excitement of a new chapter in life. Today, it brings together students, parents, and educators, remaining an important part of Russia’s cultural calendar.
